Boys soccer team tops the Falcons
Northampton traveled to Salisbury on Saturday for a nonconference game and came away with a 3-0 win thanks to a dominating first half of play. Northampton (4-1-3 EPC, 5-1-3 overall) scored all three goals in the first half for the win.
The scoring started early when Russell King hit the back of the goal to put the Konkrete Kids up 1-0. A little later in the first half, Dalton Domchek and Joey Tiwold scored goals for Northampton to make it 3-0. Throughout the half, play was centered in the Salisbury defensive zone and Northampton had a number of opportunities, but couldn’t connect on as many as they would have liked.
“Overall, I was happy; anytime we get a win I’m happy. We did a good job of creating chances, which is exactly what we’ve been working on is putting yourself in position to create those chances throughout a game,” said coach Adam Bastidas. “Now we just have to work on finishing those chances.”
The second half was a different story as Northampton continued to press as they did in the first 40-minutes but weren’t able to create the same amount of opportunities that they did earlier in the game as the Salisbury defense tightened up. The Falcons were able to get some shots in the second half, but couldn’t keep constant pressure on the Kids.
Bastidas is happy with how his team has played this season, especially since they bounced back from a 3-2 loss in their season opener against Emmaus to go unbeaten in their next eight games. He pointed out that the streak has helped his players to gain more confidence and that the team has a good attitude heading into the final half of the season.
“Over the course of years now, what’s cool for us is that this senior class is the first group that we had as freshmen, so it’s kind of nice to see how they’ve developed. Even the JV team is doing really well, they’re 6-1-1 and so we’re just trying to keep it going and keep us in position to constantly compete with the top teams every single year,” pointed out Bastidas.
This week, Northampton has games against Allen (2-7-0, 2-7-1) and East Stroudsburg North (1-8-0, 1-10-0) before their rematch with Emmaus (6-2-1, 7-3-1) on Monday. They’ve also got Whitehall (3-5-1, 4-5-1) and Parkland (6-2-1, 6-3-1) coming up again on the schedule after having beaten both of those teams early in the season.
