Kids beat Allen, Dieruff

Northampton cross country had a meet at Parkland High School on Tuesday, Sept. 18, against Allen, Dieruff, and Parkland.

Both boys and girls teams went 2-1 on the day with wins over Allen and Dieruff, and a loss to Parkland. That brings the boys record to 4-2 on the season and the girls record to 3-3.

It wasn’t an ideal day for the runners given the weather and recent weather-related events of the last week.

“Conditions were not great for this meet as it was unseasonably hot and humid for this time of year,” head coach Dan Benner said. “Plus the course conditions were not ideal with the aftermath of what we got from the leftover Hurricane Florence rain. But overall, I was pleased with how the team competed and raced against some really tough competition.”

The girls top-five were Amber Poniktera (2nd - 21:09), Magen Perelli (4th - 21:24), Georgia Wiswesser (6th - 21:33), Lauren Pague (32nd - 24:56) and Brianna Tyler (35th - 25:09). There were 86 girls total that raced on the day.

“Although there are no moral victories, I was pleased with how we raced against Parkland, losing by a close score of 33-26,” Benner said. “I think it shows growth as a team.”

The boys top-five included Vince Gallagher (10th - 17:57), Evan Gillette (16th - 18:42), Isaiah Tyler (21st - 19:08), Zeke Colyer (25th - 19:22) and Owen Nahf (27th - 19:25). There were a total of 132 boys racing on the day.

Next week, on Tuesday, Sept. 25, the Kids race at home at Bicentennial park against Pleasant Valley, Pocono Mountain East, and Pocono Mountain West. That is senior day and the team will honor its four seniors - Evan Gillette, Valencia Mercadante, Lauren Pague, and Magen Perelli.
