Catty boys fall to PA
Colonial League soccer is just beginning and every team hopes to start this new season strong.
Tuesday saw Catasauqua host Pen Argyl at Thomas Field. This match didn’t quite live up to the expectation and ended up being a lopsided affair.
Penn Argyl came to play on this blazing-hot afternoon game. The Green Knights came flying out of the blocks to score within the first minute.
Catasauqua answered back quickly though. Devon Troxell equalized for the Rough Riders, but from that point on, the game was dominated by Pen Argyl.
Stivan Kumbarov scored five times in the first half to give the Knights a 9-1 lead going into half. The Roughies didn’t give up in the second half and came back to score one goal, but they gave up another. The match finished with Pen Argyl on top of Catasauqua 10-2.
After the game, Catasauqua head soccer coach Joshua Inman was a little unhappy with his side and felt they didn’t play up to their potential.
“We didn’t play with the same intensity as the previous games this season,” said Inman.
The Rough Riders second half performance was something to build on, though.
“I told the boys at halftime we need to play with more heart. We can’t win games with no heart. The potential is there to win, but we need to show that potential on the field,” said Inman.
Catty will look to bounce back from this loss with some upcoming games at home to Wilson on Sept. 6 and at Saucon Valley on Sept. 8. Inman feels these games are both winnable and can help the Rough Riders get back to their winning ways.
He recalled how last season his side lost only 1-0 to Wilson in some brutal conditions.
“Against Wilson last season we only lost 1-0, but in a downpour on a rough pitch. It was a good battle but this time around we will be prepared and have a game plan,” said Inman.
As for the game against Saucon Valley, Inman is extra motivated to win this game.
“I used to coach there for three years. This is a special game for me and the boys sense that and play harder,” said Inman.
The whole team hopes to show some grit and turnaround from this lose and get back to their winning ways.
