Police arrested an allegedly suicidal man with a semi-automatic weapon following a standoff at his home in the early hours of Aug. 13.
According to police, around 9:45 p.m. Aug. 12 a woman reported she had been communicating with a friend via phone when he picked up a pistol, threatened to kill himself, and fired several shots off his fire escape.
Police arrived shortly thereafter at the home of Rolando Rolon, 29, at 420 Wyandotte St. The rest of the building was evacuated, with residents given shelter a few blocks away while the street was closed off to traffic and detoured.
Police negotiators communicated with Rolon for almost six hours until he was convinced to come present himself unarmed. Officers took him into custody and then to nearby St. Luke’s University Hospital for treatment.
Police recovered two pistols and ammunition from the residence.
Rolon is charged with four counts of reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct, and discharging a firearm in the city.
