James E. Kovacs

James E. Kovacs, 82, of North- ampton, died Aug. 4, 2018, at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg. He was the husband of Constance “Connie” B. (Pisklak) Kovacs for 58 years.

Born in Bethlehem, he was a son of the late Joseph and Anna (Souver) Kovacs.

He was a 1953 graduate of Hellertown High School.

He was in the U.S. Army, stationed in Munich, Germany, from 1954-56 as a cryptographer.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in business at Moravian College.

He was an executive with the Boy Scouts of America. He co-founded Oakmont Real Estate and was a real estate broker, appraiser and developer for 30 years.

He was a member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church and was a member of the Young at Heart group.

He was a charter member of Silver Creek Country Club. At age 12, he began caddying at Bethlehem Steel Golf Club and was the club’s first Caddy Champion golfer.

He volunteered with Meals on Wheels.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Ann and her husband Timothy Bertsch; two sons, David and his wife Lisa and Robert and his wife Colleen; seven grandchildren, Nicole and her husband Jonathan Souders, Amanda, Michael, Nicholas, Emily, Kelsey and Ryan; and three great-grandchildren, Hailey, Aiden and Jude.

There will be a gathering time 9-10 a.m., followed by a memorial Mass 10 a.m., Aug. 11 at the church, 2181 Washington Ave., Northampton, 18067.

Contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
