Each year, Sunday Pool League hosts a charity pool tournament and fundraiser to benefit a local cause or organization. This year, the league is pleased to announce that proceeds will be donated to Diakon Adoption & Foster Care, Lehigh Valley.

Diakon Adoption & Foster Care has one goal - to bring permanence to the lives of waiting children and youths. Through foster care, foster-to-adopt (legal-risk placements), special needs and domestic adoption, Diakon focuses on uniting children and youths with forever families.

The annual fundraiser will be held Aug. 11 at the American Club of Coplay pavilion, 300 Cherry St. Registration starts 11 a.m., and the tournament begins 1 p.m.

There will be a food truck, beverages and mugs available throughout the day, as well as 50/50 tickets and raffles with items donated by many local and regional businesses.

The event is open to the public, and children are welcome. Playing in the tournament is not required to attend. Show your support by participating in the raffle.

Coplay Borough Council meets 7 p.m. Aug. 14 in council chambers at the borough hall, 98 S. Fourth St.

The meeting is open to the public.

Redeemed Christian Church of God, Living Springs International, 5 N. Third St., is hosting a block party and picnic 1-5 p.m. Aug. 18. The event is free and open to the public.

There will be food, games and music.

The church is also hosting a Dorcas free giveaway for back-to-school supplies at the event.

There will be clothing, shoes, toys, household items and books.

Coplay Recreation & Welfare Association, one of the longest continuing civic organizations in the borough, is holding its 2018 annual fund drive in August and September.

Incorporated July 11, 1955, the group of volunteers impacts the residents and town with varied programs and events.

In its earlier years, it held a marbles tournament for children, a Halloween and Christmas party for boys and girls, a bicycle rodeo and race, a Little Miss Coplay contest and built an outdoor lighted dance floor and basketball court.

It continues to host a Halloween parade each fall.

Currently, it operates a food bank for residents, hosts an Easter egg hunt for children and a community yule program and offers sick and recovery equipment free to residents, as well as emergency assistance.

The fund drive is accomplished by mass mailings.
