Northampton Area Public Library: Create art using sound waves Aug. 6

The teen sound wave/string art program is scheduled 2 p.m. Aug. 6. Teens will learn about the science of sound waves by recording their favorite lyric or phrase, which will be transferred to wood where string art will be created from it.

Registration is required.

The teen Guitar Hero tournament is set for 2 p.m. Aug. 13. This is a tournament-style competition playing Guitar Hero on the Wii.

Prizes will be awarded. Registration is required.

Reading does not end with summer. Sign your child up for the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program. This ongoing program is to promote early literacy by reading 1,000 books to your child before they reach kindergarten.

At each 100-book milestone, your child receives a prize. Attend a special ceremony once you and your child reach 1,000 books.

Pronunciator is the library’s newest database. With Pronunciator, you have access to courses for more than 80 languages.

The library also offers ProCitizen for individuals preparing to become a U.S. citizen.

The Friends of Northampton Area Public Library fall yard sale is 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Sept. 22. Contact the library for information on reserving your space.

The Friends group is also accepting donations of items to be sold.

The library is currently soliciting items for its autumn basket social, scheduled for Oct. 5. The library will accept new or collectible items to be used in the raffle.

Ticket presale for the event begins Sept. 4.
