On July 15, Fossil’s Last Stand, 429 Race St., Catasauqua, put on one of its three fundraisers for Peaceable Kingdom, Whitehall, and Feline Urban Rescue and Rehab (FURR), Stewartsville, N.J. The bikini bike wash is traditionally well attended, but this year, a passing storm poured rain into the parking lot before the event.

“I wasn’t too worried; it’s a good cause, and I said a few prayers,” said Jacki Hartford, who owns the popular club with her husband, Carl.

The skies turned blue at the opening bell, and bikers rolled into the parking lot.

“A shout out to the borough and Chief (Douglas) Kish for all the help we get every year for this event,” said Dan Reisinger, who organizes the various biker groups for the fundraiser.

Robert and Mary O’Rourke are standards at the club.

“We volunteer for every one of these events. We like the people, and it is good to see our friends here,” Robert O’Rourke said.

Peaceable Kingdom and FURR representatives set up raffle baskets. Highlights included wine for dogs and an overflowing basket of Milk-Bone treats.

Fossil’s had a special menu on tap for the event for everyone to enjoy.

“The girls will wash anything; you just bring it by and donate $5,” Hartford said when asked if someone could bring their Schwinn Flyer over.

Live entertainment from Harlan/Tucker Band kept the party going at the bar. The band plays country rock tunes and donated its time for the event. Band members are Rita Tucker, vocalist; Harlan, playing guitar; Charles Japhe, on bass and guitar; Terry Kates, drums; Craig Hawkins, fiddle and guitar; and Geraldine Patri, on keyboard.

Fossil’s annually sponsors a chowder festival and chili cook-off to benefit the same groups.

“These are very popular events, and we are happy that they are at Fossil’s,” Hartford said.
