Zephs win recent lifting meet
The Palmerton football team hosted its 14th annual Blue Bombers Invitational Weightlifting Meet in the high school gymnasium on Sunday, April 29.
A record 152 football players representing Palmerton, Tamaqua, Palisades, Souderton, William Allen, Marian Catholic, Northwest Area, Whitehall and Panther Valley high schools, along with their family members, friends, and coaches, packed the Palmerton High School gymnasium.
Whitehall captured the team championship with 48 team points. The Zephyrs bested second place Palisades (32 points) and third place Souderton (29 points) for the team title.
Most Outstanding Lifters were awarded to the best performance in the 14-15 and 16-18 year old divisions by adding the lifters best bench and squat attempts then dividing it by their body weight.
The Most Outstanding Lifter in the 16-18-year-old division was Koby Bui of Souderton who lifted in the 150-pound class. He benched 225 pounds and squatted 355 pounds for a 580-pound total.
Angelo Daddona from Whitehall won the 14-15-year-old division Most Outstanding Lifter by bench pressing 235 pounds and squatting 405 pounds for a total of 640 pounds in the 165-pound weight class.
