Northern Valley’s Lehigh Valley Legion season came to an end Sunday with a 6-2 loss to Coplay in the league playoffs.
Northern Valley went 9-9 in the regular season to earn the No. 6 seed in the 10-team. The Chargers avoided finishing in the bottom four and having to play a one-game playoff to earn a spot in the eight-team double elimination league tournament.
After a long high school season resulted in a compact legion schedule, Northern Valley was looking forward to being rested and ready for the league tournament. However, most of the other LVL teams had the same ideas.
The Chargers lost their opening game 5-4 to No. 3 seed North Parkland last Friday night to fall into the losers bracket.
Northern Valley hosted No. 8 seed Coplay Saturday in an elimination game that turned out to be the end of the road for the Chargers.
Coplay went on to fall 9-8 to top-seeded Salisbury in the next round.
On Tuesday, South Parkland beat North Parkland 1-0 in the winners bracket, leaving the Trojans without a loss throughout the tournament and sending the Buffaloes into the loser’s bracket final against Salisbury.
The Falcons beat No. 2 seed Lower Macungie 8-1 on Tuesday and were scheduled to face North Parkland on Wednesday. The winner would get a shot at South Parkland, but will have to beat the Trojans twice to earn this year’s league title.
This year the LVL only gets one berth into the Region 2 Tournament. The league playoff champ will earn the trip to Muhlenberg Township next week to compete in the regional playoffs.
