Jean M. Belinski, 83, of Bethlehem, died June 28, 2018, at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlemberg. She was the wife of the late Richard Boligitz and of the late Walter Belinski.
Born in Bethlehem, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Marie (Henry) Pursell.
She was a 1952 graduate of Bethlehem Catholic HS and later graduated from Northampton Community College.
She was a teacher in the Allentown Diocese for many years at Sacred Heart, St. Simon & Jude and Holy Infancy elementary schools. She directed diocesan Catholic Youth Organization one act plays for 35 years.
She was a member of Sts. Simon and Jude Church, Bethlehem.
She was, in 1999, the first person inducted into Bethlehem Catholic’s Academic Hall of Fame. She was a former member of the Bethlehem Area School District school board and of the Northampton Community College alumni board. She was, in 1993, a Patriot Party candidate for mayor of Bethlehem. She was, from 1998-2014, a Bethlehem City Council member. She hosted a WGPA call-in radio program. She was a board member of the South Bethlehem Historical Society.
She is survived by a son, Richard Boligitz, with whom she resided; two daughters, Barbara Boligitz and Anne and her husband James Adams, all of Bethlehem; two sisters, Rosalie and her husband Louis Zsilavetz Sr. of Bethlehem and Marie and her husband Thomas Carroll of Phoenixville; nieces; and nephews.
Contributions may be made to Bethlehem Catholic High School, c/o the funeral home, 527 Center St., Bethlehem, 18018, for a scholarship to be established in her name.
