EASTERN SALISBURY COLUMN
For all those students that like to read, I have good news! The Harry S Truman Elementary School library will have summer hours thanks to Jane Brennan. The HST library will be open 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. June 27. It will be nice and cool inside and there are plenty of books for everyone. Students will be able to borrow books for summer reading enjoyment. The next open library date will be July 18.
Baseline ImPACT testing for those students playing fall sports, will be held 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. June 26 and 28. Additional dates are 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. July 17 and 18. The testing takes 30 to 40 minutes to complete and once testing begins, no one is permitted to enter the room. Those attending are asked to arrive early. Student athletes at the middle school level need a new baseline test done yearly and at the high school level every two years. Athletes will not be allowed to start practice without a current baseline test completed. Part of the testing requirement is no physical activity for three hours prior to the test. Any questions can be referred to the school trainers at jgrisi@salisburysd.org and jnunn@salisburysd.org.
The Franko Farm yard waste drop-off site will be open 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 30 and July 10 as well as 3 to 6 p.m. July 2 and July 5.
Please remember due to the Independence Day holiday July 4, all township offices will be closed and there will be no garbage or recycling pickup.
The summer playground program continues 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday and 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evenings. Township children who are entering first grade through age 12 are eligible to participate.
The tennis clinic with Anna Bishop will provide an introduction of basic skills in a fun and constructive atmosphere. Sign-up sheets will be available at all parks through June 28 (rain makeup day is June 29) and the clinic will be held 9 to 10 a.m. at Laubach Park and 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Lindberg Park.
The basketball clinic with Lindsay Bauer will be held July 9 to July 12 (rain makeup day is July 13) and will be held 9 to 10 a.m. at Laubach Park and 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Green Acres Park.
The Allentown Public Library book van is once again participating in the summer playground program in Salisbury. The Allentown Library is partnering with the program to offer books for participants to borrow. Children should have an Allentown Library card which can be obtained at the library. Books may be returned to any of the playground program locations, the Salisbury Township Municipal Building or the Allentown Library. The book van visits will be held June 29, July 6, 13 and 20 on the following schedule: 9:30 a.m. Green Acres Park, 9:50 a.m. Devonshire Park and 10:30 a.m. Laubach Park. “Despicable Me 3” will be shown 8 p.m. June 27 at Green Acres Park.
On days with heavy rain, there will be no program. Also, should thunderstorms develop during the program hours, all activities will stop and the program will close. Please make arrangements to have your children picked up immediately should this situation occur.
Children participating in the program are expected to behave in a respectful manner and to abide by the program and park’s rules. Any child who disrupts the program in any way will be dismissed from the program.
A calendar of weekly events will be distributed at each park. Come out and join in the fun! They’re looking forward to seeing you.
