The Lehigh Valley’s Carpenter Cup run ended Monday afternoon in Philadelphia at the hands of a Delaware North in the quarterfinal round.
Delaware North was in control from the beginning taking a three-run lead in the first inning and then never looked back en route to a 26-9 victory.
After taking care of SOL National/Bicentennial 10-7 in the opening round of the tournament, LV was no match for their Delaware counterparts at FDR Park.
The LV squad faced a 10-1 deficit after three innings on Monday, surrendering 11 hits through three frames, as the team fell behind early to an insurmountable hole they could never claw out from.
Bo Anderson led Delaware batting brigade with six RBI on the afternoon followed by Shawn Haut’s four-RBI performance.
Evan Marushak and Brittain Shander each chipped in a pair of RBIs for the Lehigh Valley.
Lehigh Valley went through seven pitchers on the day, with none lasting more than 1 2/3 innings, as Cole Welch took the loss for LV in a game that saw the team commit seven errors on the day.
Monday’s loss keeps the Lehigh Valley franchise from reaching Citizens Bank Park for Friday’s semifinals, where the Valley hasn’t reached the final four since 2013.
