Coplay Legion sitting at 4-4
With the Lehigh Valley Legion season staring to heat up, Coplay finds itself looking to stay among the top teams in this year’s league championship race.
Salisbury has a commanding lead for top honors, flying out of the gate at 8-0. Coplay currently sits at 4-4, tied with North Parkland which is 5-5. North Parkland occupies the fourth spot in the standings as of June 19, while Coplay is in fifth.
One of Coplay’s wins came last Sunday when they hosted Southern Lehigh at Sam Balliet Stadium. They defeated Southern Lehigh 9-3 for their fourth win. Zach Bilder got the win for Coplay. Head coach Jack Lisicky said that pitched six good innings for them to get the victory.
Coplay’s nine-run outburst was highlighted by a number of players, including Kyle Saylor who was 2-2 with two RBIs. Additionally, Jake Lisicky continued his torrid hitting for Coplay in the win against Southern Lehigh, going 3-3 with two doubles and three RBIs.
Coplay has scored 43 runs in its eight games, and that’s despite getting shut out in two of those contests. Their offensive production is propelled by a number of players who have gotten off to fast starts at the plate. Through a week of play, Bilder and Jake Lisicky lead the team in hits with seven. Robbie Lamm and Alex Bruneio each have six hits, with the bulk of Bruneio’s hits resulting in extra bases (1-1B, 4-2Bs, 1-3B). Alberto Montanez has five hits, while Zach Hamscher and Joe Lisicky each have four.
Jake Lisicky leads the team in RBIs with six, while Bruneio has four and Kyle Saylor has three.
Jack Lisicky said that they’re getting good pitching and playing well, and hopes that they will peak as the playoffs approach.
Coplay continues LVLBL play this week with games against Northern Valley (twice) and Salisbury.
