Blondies Cupcakes owner opens yoga studio

Rebecca Zukowski, owner of Blondies Cupcakes in Catasauqua, has opened her own yoga studio, Flow Yoga & Wellness.

The Catasauqua studio, located at 767 Front St., opened its doors March 21.

The community-based wellness center offers a variety of different classes. According to Zukowski, one of the goals of the studio is “making fitness and mindfulness fun.”

Zukowski has been doing yoga for approximately 20 years. She began teaching two years ago in various locations. As her classes grew in popularity, Zukowski began to think about opening her own place. She teaches all of the classes, with the exception of the recent addition of a stretch instructor for some early classes.

She prides herself on having a non-intimidating, informal space for her students.

“It’s chill,” she said.

According to Zukowski, no one judges in these classes, and she is more than happy to help her students modify any poses or exercises that may be too difficult. She wants to create a safe and comfortable space for her students to explore and learn. She emphasizes there are no standards to meet and that there is a fun atmosphere in the studio.

“As soon as you come in, you’re part of the group,” Zukowski said.

“We love our classes,” added Che Phoenix, one of the students attending a class.

Phoenix also doubles as the early-morning stretch instructor.

There is an array of classes to appeal to a wide audience. These classes include an introduction to yoga for beginners, a mixed-level class, yoga with weights, cardio yoga, indoor interval walking and Pilates. Her morning flow class is fast paced to build strength and stamina, and her flex flow class increases flexibility and deepens relaxation. Yin yoga focuses energy and strength.

Some other options include a yoga class for children and partner yoga to explore different poses.

She is even adding Reiki sessions, massage and aromatherapy exploration.

According to Zukowski and some of her students, the most popular classes are yin yoga, beginner yoga and the mixed-level yoga.

Affordability was one of Zukowski’s focuses with this new business. Classes are $5 for drop-ins, $45 for a 10-class punch card and $60 for a month of unlimited yoga. She wanted to keep the costs down to reach a wider group of people.

Zukowski is always looking for new ways to grow and expand her business. She takes input from her students to implement new initiatives.

“It’s a community class,” she said.

Zukowski wants the community to be involved and proud of the business as well.

She has even taken a marketing class to better understand social media tactics and other methods of getting her business out there.

She spoke highly of her support system - both at home and in the studio. According to Zukowski, her husband stepped up to help with Blondies Cupcakes when she opened the studio. She reported that she doesn’t know what she would do without his help and support.

“I’m so proud of him. He’s down there icing cupcakes right now,” she said.
