LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

EASTERN SALISBURY COLUMN

Well, here we are on officially the first full day of summer vacation for the kids. If your kids are home for the summer, there are plenty of options to keep them entertained. If yours are like mine….when they get bored, it’s usually not a good thing!

Salisbury Township will again be holding its annual summer playground program and dates have recently been announced. It will be held June 18 through July 27. All township children who are entering first grade through 12 years of age are eligible to participate. Hours for the program are 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

There are many fun activities planned for the summer program including games, sports, arts and crafts and visits from the Allentown Library Book van. Please note the program will not be held at Lindberg Park this summer due to construction (more to come on that!).

Registration forms are available on the township website at salisburytownshippa.org.

Speaking of construction at Lindberg, the township is beginning the final phase of improvements and the park will have many areas off limits due to safety concerns. The township is asking residents to respect work zones for safety so this process can be completed as quickly and safely as possible.

State Rep. Jeanne McNeill, R-133rd, and Salisbury Township will hold a shredding event at the high school 9 to 11 a.m. June 16. A shredder will be set up in the parking lot and families are able to bring three boxes or garbage bags of unwanted papers to be shredded. Participants may sign up the day of the event and more information is available on the township website at salilsburytownshippa.org.

The Salisbury Township Police Department will also have their prescription drop-off box onsite as well for disposal of any unwanted medications.

There are also several Salisbury Youth Association signups happening at this time. SYA football registration will be held June 30 at Laubach Park or online at syasports.net. Age groups are four through sixth grade. Register before July 1 and save $25. Questions can be directed to Coach Krauss at syafootball@gmail.com.

Cheerleading registration is also in full swing, open to age groups five through 12. Questions can be directed to Coach Kristin at cheerleading@syasports.net.

SYA fall baseball registration is also open at this time, available only at syasports.net. Fall baseball is for youth ages eight to 15. Questions can be directed to Coach Strickland via email at fall baseball@syasports.net.

The Franko Farm Yard Waste drop-off site will be open 3 to 6 p.m. June 18 and 21 and 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. June 23 and 26.
