While the 2018 Lehigh Valley Legion Baseball League season is still in its early stages, Coplay had a nice bounce back win to put them over .500 after Saturday’s doubleheader against North Parkland.

After dropping the first game 10-0 to the Buffaloes, they evened the twin bill with a 10-6 victory that currently puts them at 3-2 on the young season.

Head coach Jack Lisicky said that Alex Bruneio allowed just two eared runs during his six innings of work, giving Coplay an opportunity to showcase its potent offense to get the win.

“He was able to keep them off his pitches,” said Lisicky. “He did a real nice job.”

With Bruneio dealing on the bump, Coplay was able to push across double digit runs as the top of their lineup set the tone in the win. Robbie Lamm had two hits, while Zachary Bilder went 3-3 with three runs scored. Jake Lisicky, batting in the three hole, had four RBIs to pace the club, going 3-3 with a pair of singles and a sacrifice fly.

This is Jack Lisicky’s first year as Coplay’s skipper. He had been the Connie Mack head coach last season and stepped into the role that was occupied by Jim Murphy last season.

Coplay will rely on Bruneio, Zach Hamscher, Jake Paashaus and Zach Bilder to eat up most of the starter innings. Jack Lisicky said that Zachary Brodeur has seen time in relief this season and will be able to fill that role for Coplay.

Bruneio and Hamscher are both in their first year of college. Bruneio just completed his freshman season at Kings College where he started seven games this spring.

Paashaus will be a senior at Whitehall this year, while Bilder just completed his senior season at Catasauqua. Brodeur is another senior hurler, having recently completed his playing at Allentown Central Catholic.

Jack Lisicky said that Bilder’s been playing well so far this season, and they’ll count on him to log innings, as well as produce at the dish throughout the season.

Coplay has another Roughie on its roster as Andrew Martinez will be primarily a middle infielder. Two more Vikings are also on the rolls as Devon Olsovsky and Conner Nejad will see playing time for Coplay.

Additionally, Coplay will have Alberto Montanez who played for Lincoln Leadership last season. Jack Lisicky said that Montanez is a real nice addition and a good ballplayer.

The Whitehall players dotting the roster include Ben Antonchak, Ryan Pavone, Joe Lisicky, Zackary Hartman, Ben Hudak, Owen Fischl and Kyle Saylor.

Jack Lisicky said that it’s critical that the team enjoys playing with one another, and that’s the atmosphere that currently exists with Coplay.

“It’s a great bunch of kids,” said Lisicky. “They enjoy each other’s company.”
