Fire damages Upper Macungie garage, house
Volunteer firefighters from Good Will Fire Company No. 1, Trexlertown, Fogelsville and Upper Macungie Station 56, along with Cetronia Ambulance Corps personnel, were dispatched just before 3 p.m. on June 3 for a working fire in an attached garage at a home at 9359 Trexler Road, Breinigsville.
According to an email from Trexlertown Fire Chief Stephen Oplinger, Macungie, Alburtis, Lower Macungie, Topton and Weisenberg firefighters were called for a second alarm. Cetronia Fire Department was dispatched for additional manpower.
“New Tripoli was called to stand by in Upper Macungie,” Oplinger stated.
Some 40 firefighters responded to the scene, he added.
On arrival, they were confronted with heavy fire in the two-car garage attached to the renovated farmhouse.
Using water supplied from a tanker, fire crews were able to quickly knock down the fire to prevent it from spreading to the home.
Fire units remained on the scene for well over an hour to be sure the fire was completely extinguished and any fire that had extended into the main part of the home had been thoroughly doused.
“The fire was placed under control at 5:50 p.m.,” Oplinger stated.
He said the location of where the fire started and the cause of the fire are being investigated by Trexlertown Fire Marshal Dennis McArdle.
“Damage was centered around the garage,” Oplinger said.
“There was minor damage to the home.”
Oplinger noted there were two adults at home when the fire started.
There were no pets in the home, he added.
One firefighter was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, for unspecified injuries.
The American Red Cross Lehigh Valley was notified and is providing housing, Oplinger said.
According to Lehigh County assessment records, the home is owned by Charles B. and Betsy J. Harrison.
