John Joseph Spanitz Sr., 85, of Coplay, died May 30, 2018, at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest.

Born in Whitehall, he was a son of the late Frank and Mary (Kutchera) Spanitz.

He was in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict.

He was employed by, and retired from, Exide Technologies, formerly Willard Battery, Allentown, where he served as a shop steward for many years.

He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, Stiles.

He is survived by four children, John Jr. and his wife Patricia, Denise and her husband Louis Bodish, Terese Haas and Danette and her husband William Koons; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Frank and his wife Anna; nieces; and nephews.
