‘Hunchback’ sweeps the Freddy Awards

Parkland High School thespians garnered the most Freddy Awards and Outstanding Overall Production of a Musical for their presentation of the musical “The Hunchback of Notre Dame,” during the May 24 presentations at the State Theatre, Easton.

In addition, Parkland received Freddy Awards for:

·Outstanding Performance by an Orchestra;

·Outstanding Use of Scenery;

·Outstanding Chorus; and

·Outstanding Production Number for “The Bells of Notre Dame;

Parkland tied with Southern Lehigh, “Disney’s The Little Mermaid” for Outstanding Stage Crew (In honor of Capt. Christopher Seifert); and

Reese Diaz and Alex Atiyeh received Freddy Awards for Outstanding Small Ensemble Performance for their character portrayals “Sanctuary.”

Diaz received a Freddy Award for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role for his portrayal of Quasimodo and brought home a DeSales University Scholarship.

Diaz and Meghan Altemose of Saucon Valley each received the Mowad Turf Specialists Cash Award.

In the Specialty Awards category, Kailey Kloiber tied with Seneca Phillips McGraw of Moravian Academy for a West Virginia Scholarship in Theater Design-Technology.

Parkland, along with Hackettstown and Northern Lehigh high schools was awarded the R. Richard Knauss Foundation Cash Award.
