City officials introduced May 10 the newest member of the community’s newest public safety member; Silver. A 2-year-old yellow Labrador, Silver joins the police department’s three more aggressive K9s as an arson dog, specially trained to search for the scent of chemicals and accelerants. She comes to the city through a longtime funding partnership with State Farm, and lives and works with Detective Douglas Nothstein. During the announcement, Mayor Bob Donchez grinned widely at the happy animal and said, “I’m gonna take her home.”
State Senator Lisa Boscola greets Silver, saying she's replacing Allentown's arson dog, Judge, who is retiring. Handler Douglas Nothstein is there to keep Silver on-task.
