American Legion bike riders revved their 100-plus engines and rode into town April 20.

“This isn’t a motorcycle club; we are just American Legion members who like to get out and ride,” said Rich Scherb, who organized the stop at Catasauqua’s Post 215. “For the most part, everyone knows each other.”

Scherb led the group with his 2014 Harley Davidson Street Glide.

According to Scherb, the organization finds a veteran in need of assistance and helps them.

“We do more than just show up for the ride. Last year, we helped a veteran after she lost her husband, who was also a vet. She almost lost her house. We got her back on her feet, so she could get a job,” he said.

The legion put out a spread for the bikers. Cheese steaks and barbecue topped the menu, with a side of vegetable lentil soup. There was a cash bar, and all proceeds went to the legion.

Part of the program was to have bikes blessed. Pastor Jed Smurda, a bike rider himself, joined Randy Lentz, a minister with Salem United Church of Christ, to perform the services.
