DARTS: Salem Lutheran wins lv title

In the 63rd Lehigh Valley Championship Series between the Suburban League and City League, it was Salem Lutheran of the Suburban League beating East Hills Moravian of the City League 3 games to 0, for their 16th Lehigh Valley Championship.

In Game 1, Salem jumped out to a 4-0 lead scoring four runs in the first. East Hills came back with a run in the third and another in the fourth to make the score 4-2. Salem added three runs in the bottom of the fourth for a 7-2 lead. East Hills scored six runs, highlighted by Jim Van Billard’s 3-run HR, in the fifth inning to take a 8-7 lead. They added another run in the eighth for a 9-7 lead. But, in the bottom of the ninth Salem Lutheran tied the score with two runs and in the 10th inning, with a man on second, Tyler won the game with a triple for a 10-9 Salem win.

In Game 2, it was all Salem Lutheran as they scored three runs in the second, third, fourth, and fifth innings for a 12-0 lead. Both Salem and East Hills scored a run in the sixth inning to make the score 13-1. East Hills scored three runs in the eighth inning and Salem closed out the scoring with three more runs in the top of the ninth inning for a final score of 16-4.

Game 3 found both East Hills & Salem Lutheran each scoring a run in the first inning for a 1-1 tie. Salem Lutheran added a run in the third inning, another in the fourth, with four more runs in the fifth and another run in the eighth inning for a 8-1 lead. East Hills closed out the scoring with three runs in the ninth for a final score of 8-4.

Leading hitters for Salem Lutheran included Scott Hoffert 9-15, Bryan Frankenfield 7-15 (HR), Austin Hoffert 7 -15 (HR), Jason Biggs 6-15, Kyle Taylor 5-12, Tyler Frankenfield 5-13, Walt Hoffert 5-15 & Bill Hoke Sr. with a HR.

Leading hitters for East Hills were Bob Baer 7-15, Frank Pavlov 7-15, Dan Damio 6-11, Tom Waltz 5-14, & Jim Van Billard 4-15 with a three-run HR.
