Coplay: Street sweeping starts today

A street sweeper will come through the borough today, May 17, and tomorrow, May 18, to sweep all the streets. No alleys will be swept.

Signs prohibiting parking are posted along the route. Violators risk a ticket or towing if the vehicles are not moved during the street-sweeping hours.

The May 17 schedule includes Front, Third, Fifth, Cherry, Seventh, Ninth, 11th, 13th, Chestnut, Keefer, Maple, Oak and Center streets and Center Circle.

The May 18 schedule includes Second, Fourth, Sixth, Wall, Eighth, 10th, 12th, Lehigh and Coplay streets, Schreiber Avenue, Saylor Drive and Saylor Circle, Magna Drive and Magna Circle East and West, Tapler, Margaret, Barbara, Catherine and Bernice drives and Ruch Street.

The borough’s 150th anniversary committee meets 7 p.m. tonight, May 17, in the borough municipal building, 98 S. Fourth St.

Also meeting this evening is the model railroad club. They meet 7:30 p.m. on the second floor of the municipal building.

Both sessions are open to the public.

The borough will hold its annual tire drop-off 10 a.m.-2 p.m. May 19. This is the only such event for this year.

Borough public works personnel will load the tires into a trailer provided by Lafarge Cement in the lower lot of the Coplay Parkway, Second and Keefer streets.

Tires from cars and pickup trucks will be accepted. Tires from large trucks, ATVs, motorcycles or bikes will not be accepted.

Eight tires per household is the maximum.

St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 4 S. Fifth St., will have a ham and chicken dinner 4-7 p.m. May 19.
