Shirley A. Ruland, 82, of Bethlehem Township, died away suddenly on May 3, 2018. Born in Easton, she was a daughter of the late Ralph and Catherine (Everly) Harlan. She was the wife of the late Donald B. Ruland.

She attended Pennsylvania State University and East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania where she earned a teaching degree.

She was an elementary school teacher for the Bethlehem Area School District for more than 20 years until she retired.

She was a former member of Epworth United Methodist Church, Bethlehem.

She was a master piano player.

She is survived by Allan vanHorne, her companion of 20 years; a daughter, Teri Lyn Ruland-Scharle and her husband Dr. Timothy Scharle of Bethlehem; a son, Rand R. Rand and his wife Christina Russ of Fort Mill, S.C.; a sister, Mary Lou Wollman of Easton; and four grandchildren, Ryan D. and Kathryn M. Ruland and James H. and Julianna R. Stellato.
