Upper Macungie board deals with a variety of issues

Upper Macungie supervisors have authorized signing an agreement with PennDOT for a stormwater easement on the right of way for the culvert on Werley Road.

The board also gave the go ahead to Keystone Consulting engineers to complete a tapping fee study and to bid for the 2018 sanitary sewer manhole rehabilitation and pipe lining.

Along with this, preparation and advertisement of the sewer ordinance changes were authorized.

Cindy Yaskowski was appointed assistant secretary during the board’s April meeting. She will be standing in for Ashley Godshall while she is on maternity leave.

Safe Sitter, a new recreation program to train baby sitters, was given approval.

The program, which awaits approval of the township solicitor, will be presented one month in the summer at Independent Park.

Supervisors also gave a nod to Verizon and PPL right of way agreements, upon approval of the solicitor.

These are located at the Route 100 Park and are in conjunction with the access to the cell tower. The tight-of-way will be along the property line.

Bids were granted for various items.

Crack seal was given to Asphalt Maintenance Solutions for a price of $57,800 along with the bituminous seal bid of $150,348.67.

A bid of $260,941 for friction course was also awarded to Asphalt Maintenance Solutions.

Grass mowing was given to Pennsylvania Lawn and Landscaping for $18,365.75. A bid for the 2011 Dodge Charger was received but was not awarded.

In his presentation to the board, Police Chief Edgardo Colon noted a recent PennDOT statistic showed approximately 7,500 trucks per day travel through the township.

Speed signs will be installed shortly and a new officer will be hired soon.

The railroad crossing study to make sure that all crossings are safe for vehicular traffic, has been finished.

Other police news showed that the department had 977 calls for service from February 26 to March 31. Four hundred sixty two traffic citations were issued in that period. Disturbing the peace led the list of reported crimes at 16 with drug/alcohol violations at 12. The K-9 crew had two tasks in Upper Macungie and two in other jurisdictions.

The motor carrier safety program performed 69 inspections with 107 violations. Twenty seven citations were issued.

Matt McConnell will attend the next supervisors’ meeting to show the wetlands area that will be created at Ricky Park in Green Hills.

They received a grant for the project. A solar powered fountain will be installed with a 20-gallon per minute flow.

A total of 127 permits were issued in March. Building permits led the way with 54. Single family detached permits issued were six, with 10 single-family attached and one commercial structure given out.

EMS responses included 83 (priority 1), 67 (priority 2) and 88 (priority 3). Emergency responses had Station 8 responded to 38 emergency calls. Station 25 answered 35 calls and Station 56 responded to 44 emergencies. Station 25 welcomed three new members.
