Northampton: Borough police to hold fishing derby April 28

The Northampton Borough Police Department is hosting a fishing derby April 28 at the Hokendauqua Creek, directly behind the police station at 1401 Laubach Ave.

The derby is hosted by the department in an effort to raise funds for equipment purchases but, more importantly, to further a positive outlook of police in the community and to provide a chance for the residents to get to know and interact with the officers of the department.

The event is also intended to help a high school senior further an education toward a career in the criminal justice field, according to Northampton Police Chief Bryan D. Kadingo.

According to Officer Ryan Grube, who is coordinating the rain-or-shine derby, organizers will be stocking more than 300 trout for the event. There will be food concessions on premises as well.

The event kicks off 8 a.m. and will end noon. Prizes will be awarded 2 p.m. to the top anglers.

Top junior anglers will receive trophies, while adults will be awarded plaques, Grube said.

Participants must furnish their own tackle and bait, and adult anglers must be appropriately licensed along with a trout stamp.

Kadingo added that the department will be selling tickets for the derby and will be conducting a Chinese auction and raffles for numerous items during the derby.

For more information, call Northampton Police at 610-261-0404.
