Catty gets much-needed wins
Catasauqua’s baseball team got just what it needed – three timely wins.
Plagued by inexperience and injuries, the Roughies were sputtering and struggling with a 1-5 record, and they didn’t see any help in sight.
But they rallied for three impressive wins and raised their mark to 4-5 overall, and more importantly, 4-4 in league play.
Catty defeated Salisbury, 3-1, and followed it with a 15-5 victory over Moravian Academy and a 13-3 drubbing of Bangor.
“We are playing pretty well right now,” said head coach Steve Bradley. “Offensively, we’re getting hitting and our pitching has been good. We were having trouble before, but the kids are really picking each other up.”
In the win over Salisbury, Adam Reinhart knocked in the team’s first two runs. The Roughies also got a lift with the return of Shane Dolon to the lineup after being sidelined with a severe concussion, as he played a stellar third base.
Corey Raysely swiped a pair of bases and Andrew Torres closed the gap for starter Zach Bilder, who had a solid effort.
Against Moravian, Bilder, and Creyer each knocked in three runs, and Dolon, Raysely, and Andrew Martinez each added a pair.
Joey Kober started the game and Andrew Torres closed it out.
Torres had a busy week as he closed two games and pitched a five-inning, four-hitter with seven strikeouts in the win over Bangor. He also plated three runs against Bangor.
Bilder has four RBIs against the Slaters with a homer and a triple. Jayden June had a pair of hits and RBIs, as well did Kober, Raysely, and Creyer, who all added the pair in the 12-hit attack.
“Andrew (Torres) has really been doing a nice job for us,” said Bradley. “He really has got his game together. (Torres) has good stuff, and he is always working to get better.”
The Roughies will look to get above the .500 mark with games against Northern Lehigh, Pen Argyl, and Lehighton this week.
“We have some very good bats and we are really starting to hit the ball,” added Bradley. “It will come down to our pitching that looked very good in the past several games.”
