Salisbury Township School District has used six weather emergency days this year according to Superintendent Dr. Randy Ziegenfuss.

The following changes have been made to the school calendar: June 7 and 8 will be full days for all students. June 11 will be an early dismissal for all students with a 12:15 p.m. dismissal for Salisbury Middle School and Salisbury High School and a 1 p.m. dismissal for Harry S Truman Elementary School and Western Salisbury Elementary School.

June 12 is the last day for all students with a 10:30 a.m. dismissal for middle and high school students and an 11:15 a.m. dismissal for elementary school students.

Any additional school closures will be added to the end of the school year calendar.

Students will begin the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment testing. In my last column, I missed a day of the language arts tests. Students in grades three to eight at HST, WSE and SMS will take the language arts tests April 11 and 12. I originally said the elementary schools were only taking the tests April 11. My apologies. Also, the same students will be taking the math portion of the tests April 17 and 18. Students in grades four and eight will take the science portion of the tests April 24 and 25. Please make sure your student gets a good night’s sleep and a good breakfast. Good luck everyone!

SMS and SHS students have a 12:15 p.m. early dismissal April 20. The elementary schools dismiss at regular time.

What is the spotted lanternfly you ask? The Salisbury Township Environmental Advisory Council, working with Lehigh County and Penn State University Extension Office, will host a workshop 7 p.m. April 18 at the Salisbury Township municipal building, 2900 S. Pike Ave. The topic of discussion will be the spotted lanternfly and how it can affect our community and the crops we grow.

Jerusalem Western Salisbury Church will hold a community breakfast 8 to 11 a.m. April 14. The theme of this month’s breakfast is “Welcome Spring.” Additional menu items include orange ricotta pancakes, cinnamon rolls and blueberry cream cheese coffee cake. A donation is suggested. All proceeds will benefit the food packaging ministry.

There is a school board meeting 7:30 p.m. April 18 at the administration building and a curriculum and technology meeting 7 p.m. April 23 at SMS.

The Devonshire drop-off is open April 17 and 21. Hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
