Lehigh University students gathered together on the evening of March 20 for a sign-making party in preparation to attend the March for Our Lives March 24. The recently-formed Lehigh University Student Political Action Committee (SPAC) hosted the event and arranged the bus trip to the march as a response to the Feb. 14 Marjory Stoneman Douglas HS shooting.
Present at the event were Bethlehem Police Chief Mark DiLuzio, Lehigh University Chief of Police Jason Schiffer, American Civil Liberties Union Representative Joe Welsh and State Representative Steve Samuelson. Each guest had the opportunity to speak, addressing proper rally behavior and legal actions being discussed to address the issue of gun control, among other topics.
“The sign-making party accomplished just what it was meant to,” said Ryan Bailey, SPAC vice president of public affairs. “Joe Welsh gave the students and myself valuable insights on our rights as protesters and marching etiquette. This gives us the tools to go to D.C. and be civilly engaged without a hitch. It was also great to speak face to face with local leaders and hear how they are supporting our cause and fighting for the safety of students and the general public alike.”
