Emmet Cahill normally performs with the well-known group Celtic Thunder, but the 26-year-old Irish tenor has also embarked on a solo career. On March 20 Cahill performed before nearly 300 at the First Presbyterian Church treating attendees to an assortment of traditional Irish songs, spiritual numbers and popular tunes including fielding a number of audience requests.
Cahill, who in 2013 was named “Irish Tenor of the Year” by the Irish American Music Association, was coming off of his first solo appearance at Carnegie Hall and at Madison Square Garden before a New York Knicks basketball game.
Among the selections he performed were Irish standards such as “Irish Lullaby,” “Danny Boy,” and “Galway Bay,” the spiritual “My Forever Friend,” and the more popular “Moon River.” He was accompanied by Seamus Brett on piano.
The Bethlehem based Concord Chamber Singers opened for Cahill and later joined him on two selections during the concert. They were directed by Dr. Jennifer Kelly.
Cahill thanked the audience for their “amazing support” and visited with them after the show.
