Irene M. Kelleher, 98, of Bethlehem, died March 21, 2018. Born in Bethlehem, she was a daughter of the late Antal “Tony” and Irene (Varga) Kovacs. She was the wife of the late Joseph E. Kelleher.
She attended St. John Capistrano School, Liberty High School and Bethlehem Business College.
She was a social worker for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Welfare.
She was a parishioner of St. Anne’s Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Sodality.
During World War II, she was a volunteer for the American Red Cross. She was a founding member of the Holy Family Manor Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member of the Hungarian Catholic Club, Allentown Art Museum, St. Bernard’s Ladies Auxiliary and the Serra Club. She was a volunteer for St. Luke’s Hospital, especially during Musikfest.
She is survived by two daughters, Colleen and her husband, Rick Weiss and Dr. Kathleen and her husband Dr. William Whittaker; a son, John Kelleher; four grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a son, Joseph E. Kelleher; three sisters, Violet Kovacs; Catherine Horvath and Sister Andrea, F.D.C; and two brothers, Anthony and Kalman Kovacs.
