Cookie Crunch features local female chefs
It’s that time of year for those delicious hand-delivered cookies, and ArtsQuest Steelstacks celebrated by hosting the fun and tasty Girl Scout Cookie Crunch Feb. 25.
The event kicked off with a Girl Scout-only portion with four local female celebrity chefs. They were: Ashley Sherman, who is the executive sous chef for Aramark at SteelStacks and a 2014 Hell’s Kitchen contestant; Heather Williams, who was the 2017 Hell’s Kitchen runner-up; Lucy Chelton, who is a Chopped Jr. winner and a former Girl Scout herself; and Sarah Sobers, who is a sous chef at Buddy V’s Ristorante at the Sands Casino.
Each celebrity chef participated in a question and answer session with over 30 scouts. Afterward, each chef gave scouts a hands-on experience in how to make various desserts using Girl Scout cookies.
Later in the day, the main event was held in the Musikfest Café and was open to the public. Attendees got to sample a wide variety of foods made with Girl Scout cookies. A total of 13 local establishments participated. Attendees had the option to vote on their favorite foods.
The categories included savory, sweet, kid’s choice and the Cookie Crunch champion. At the conclusion of the event, the votes were tallied and the winners were announced. The savory winner was Carmel with their braised Thin Mint short ribs. The sweet category was won by Aramark at SteelStacks with their stuffed French toast. The kid’s choice was won by the Bethlehem Dairy Store with their Peanut Butter Pattie ice cream.
This year’s Cookie Crunch champion as the Bethlehem Area Vocational Technical School culinary students, who won the judges over with their lemonades crusted chicken tenders with mango salsa.
