EASTERN SALISBURY COLUMN
Well here we are, officially the first full day of spring – according to the calendar. Think Mother Nature will tell Old Man winter its bed time? I know I’m eagerly awaiting the arrival of spring and its warmer temperatures.
Harry S Truman Elementary School will hold its spring concert for students in kindergarten through second grade 9:30 a.m. March 22. Parents and guardians are encouraged to attend as this is always a popular event for the kids.
The Salisbury Township Recreation Committee will host the annual Easter egg hunt 10 a.m. March 24 at Lindberg Park. This event is for children ages three to 10 and registration must be received by March 21. Registration forms are available at the township building or on the township website www.salisburytownshippa.org. Should there be inclement weather, check the website to see if the event is cancelled.
On March 26, HST will hold the first grade invitation to lunch. Reservation papers and menus have been sent home; please remember to send them in if you are attending. Also remember that no outside food is allowed, to encourage a true lunch experience at HST.
The next curriculum and technology meeting will be held 7 p.m. March 26 at Western Salisbury Elementary School.
The annual Kindergarten Bonnet Parade at HST will be held 9:30 a.m. March 28.
Please remember March 29 is a snow make-up day and all district schools are open. Salisbury Middle School and Salisbury High School will dismiss 12:15 p.m. and HST and WSE will dismiss 1 p.m. All township schools will be closed March 30 and April 2 for spring break. Schools will re-open April 3.
On March 31, Salisbury Township will hold a youth fishing day 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Laubach Park Pond. Children ages 15 and under are invited to fish but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times. There is a limit of five fish per child.
The SHS baseball program is selling spirit cards for $10. This card offers discounts at many local stores including, but not limited to, Applebee’s, Dunkin’ Donuts and Big Woody’s to name a few. See a team member to purchase.
I can always tell spring is around the corner when the recycling drop-off sites open and that time has come. The Franko Farm yard waste site will be open for the first time this year 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 24 and 27.
“It’s spring fever. That is what the name of it is. And when you’ve got it, you want – oh, you don’t know quite know what it is you want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so!” Mark Twain
