Carl L. Balliet

Carl L. Balliet, 71, of Allentown, died unexpectedly on March 17, 2018.

Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Carl L. and Elsie (Wunderler) Balliet,

He and his wife Bonnie G. (Snyder) Holland Balliet were married 22 years.

He honorably served with the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and returned home to become a member of the Allentown Police Department, attaining the rank of sergeant, serving as a detective and member of the vice, motorcycle, and mounted units.

He was currently serving as a senior magisterial district judge in Lehigh County.

An avid golfer with the Allentown Duffers League, he loved to play poker, and ride his motorcycle with the Blue Knights.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter Mary C. Grol and husband, Brian, of Whitehall; grandchildren Jon Michael, Hunter, Ian, Joshua, Josef and Emily; stepson John Holland; brothers Gregory and wife Jobette, Phillip and wife Linda; goddaughter Janelle; aunts Hilda Steirer and Stella Ruch; nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. He was previously married to Helen I. Buchman.

He was predeceased by a brother James.

Graveside services, officiated by the Rev. Timothy D. Boyer, will be 11 a.m. March 23 in the Chapel of Cedar Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum, 1700 Airport Road, Allentown, followed by a celebration of his life and reception at The Palace Center, 623 Hanover Ave., Allentown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Arrangements were made by Gilbert Funeral Home, Whitehall.
