‘High School Musical’ onstage at Springhouse
Springhouse Middle School thespians will perform “High School Musical” March 8-10.
This musical is about two high school juniors Troy Bolton, captain of the basketball team, and Gabriella Montez, a shy transfer student, who try out for the lead roles in the school’s musical despite their classmates’ attempts to thwart their dreams of singing onstage at East High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The musical is based on the original Disney Channel movie “High School Musical” written by Peter Barsocchini with music by David Lawrence.
Sophia Morgan commented on her character, Gabriella Montez, and the musical.
“My favorite part of the musical is making new friends and continuing my singing,” Morgan stated.
Aaron Diaz, who portrays Chad Danforth, and Kaitlin McCloud, who portrays Taylor McKessie, both commented on their roles.
“I like Danforth’s exaggerated character,” Diaz said.
He said his favorite part of being in the musical is being a part of a group and working for the entertainment of other people.
McCloud said her character is not really known, so she gets to play around with how she wants her to act without having too many boundaries.
“Definitely the people are my favorite part of being in this musical,” McCloud said. “I’ve met some of the coolest people I will ever meet just from being in the theater.
“There is never a moment when we’re not all laughing with each other and to me it’s so amazing.”
Addison Treat and Jared Sussman, who play twins Sharpay and Ryan Evans, also comment on their roles.
Treat said what she likes about her character Sharpay is her attitude.
“My favorite part of the participating in the musical is the dancing,” she stated.
Sussman said his favorite part of playing his character is showing Ryan’s personality.
“I enjoy being part of the ‘High School Musical’ family and working with incredibly talented cast and directors,” he said. “I learn something every day.”
