John G. Cowitch Sr., 88, of Northampton, died Feb. 24, 2018, at ManorCare Health Services, Bethlehem. He was the husband of the late Mary (Heigl) Cowitch.

Born in Hokendauqua, he was a son of the late George and Helen (Bartas) Cowitch.

He was a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.

He worked at Allen Drug Supply Company for many years. He was the owner and operator of JC News and Beauty World, both in the Trexlertown Mall. He, along with his sons, was the owner and operator of Whitehall Christmas Trees for over 50 years.

He was a member of Queenship of Mary Church, Northampton.

He is survived by four sons, John G. Jr. and his wife Rosemarie, of Florida, Leonard and his wife Patricia, George and his wife Valerie, and Robert and his wife Tracey, all of Northampton; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Margaret Kuchera of Northampton.

He was predeceased by three sisters, Dorothy Kuchera, Helen Dobish and Mary Check.
