There is a new addition to Fullerton on the southeast corner of 835 Third St. Two blessing boxes have been added.
A Boy Scout from the Fogelsville area wanted to do blessing boxes for his Eagle Scout project. He heard about the Whitehall Area Hunger Initiative’s summer breakfast program during the summer of 2017 and wanted to build the boxes to help those families. So he contacted the summer breakfast coordinators, who approached St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, which was the host site. After several months, two blessing boxes were added to the lawn.
Michael Olenick, now an Eagle Scout, along with some friends, built and installed the two blessing boxes for our community. Thank you, Michael.
A blessing box can be for food, books or toiletries for people in need. The concept is that those who have extra can place items into the boxes and those who need items are welcomed to help themselves. Anyone is welcome to make a donation or pick up items. These boxes are a community project to help others. If you have books you have already read and don’t want them any longer, drop them off into the book box. Or drop off extra food into the food box.
All donations are gratefully accepted, but please keep in mind that during the winter months, only dry goods should be donates as canned liquids could freeze and create a problem.
