PPL grant aids Salvation Army youth program

The Salvation Army, Lehigh Valley has received a $5,000 sustaining grant from the PPL Foundation. These funds will support the Youth Enrichment Programs at The Salvation Army Allentown Corps.

Through the Youth Department, The Salvation Army provides a positive and motivating environment for children to learn and grow.

The after-school and summer programs provide children with nutritious meals, innovative educational programs through Reading Revival, Repertory Dance Theatre, STEAM programs, poetry interpretation and environmental education.

The grant will provide support to more than 140 children in Allentown that are enrolled in the Youth Enrichment Program. These children come from low income households and neighborhoods and The Salvation Army meets their need for after-school and summer program care.

“We are honored to partner with PPL in an effort to better the lives of the children who participate in our programs,” Allentown Corps Officer Major Brenda DeVault said. “PPL does great work in our community and their support is commendable.”

“We want the communities we serve to be vibrant and thriving,” PPL Electric Utilities Regional Affairs Director Carol Obando-Derstine said. “Organizations like The Salvation Army do so much to educate children and to revitalize the surrounding neighborhoods. We are pleased to be able to provide support for such an important initiative.”
