James E. McRell, 89, of Walnutport, died Feb. 5, 2018, at his residence. He was the husband of Annette H. (Handwerk) McRell.
Born in East Allen Township, he was a son of the late Alexander and Grace (Dech) McRell.
He graduated from Northampton Area High School in 1947.
He was a third class radarman in the U.S. Navy from 1948-1952. A Korean War veteran, he was awarded the National Defense and Navy Occupational Service Medals and received a Navy unit commendation.
He was a machine operator and assembler for 35 years until he retired from Fuller Company, Catasauqua. He was a former caretaker of Indianland Cemetery.
He was a past commander and honor guard member of the VFW Post 4714, Northampton. He was a member of Oplinger-Hower American Legion Post 899, Walnutport.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Gary H. of Walnutport and Terrance E. of Montgomeryville; and a daughter, Allison J. and her husband Alex Kirchner of Ashburn, Va.
