Hokendauqua: Tax help is available

Until April 11, AARP Tax-Aide will continue its local, state and federal tax preparation help at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3355 MacArthur Road, for residents 50 and older.

To schedule your appointment, come to the church 9 a.m.-noon on a Monday or Wednesday.

Hokendauqua Park & Playground Association (HPPA) will be holding registration for boys and girls for the upcoming baseball and softball season at Hokendauqua Fire Company, 3022 S. Second St., 2-4 p.m. Feb. 10.

Online registration continues until Feb. 10 at hokeypark.org. Registration forms may be downloaded from the website.

When registering in person, bring a copy of your child’s birth certificate (for first-time players), proof of health insurance and contact information (including phone numbers and an email address).

The Woman’s Club of Whitehall Township will hold its next meeting 7 p.m. Feb. 12 at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church. Parkland Strolling Strings will entertain.

Donations requested for the food pantry this month are pancake mixes and syrups. Clear storage bins of all sizes are also being collected for Turning Point of the Lehigh Valley. Children’s books and metal can tabs are ongoing collections.

The monthly meeting of HPPA will be 7:30 p.m. Feb. 13 in the social hall of Hokendauqua Fire Company. HPPA is asking for those interested in coaching baseball or softball to attend.

Faith will have a Miller-Keystone blood drive 4-7 p.m. Feb. 19.

Whitehall Bible Fellowship Church, 3300 Seventh St., will host a Whitehall Area Hunger Initiative free community meal 4-6:30 p.m. Feb. 20. Meals are guaranteed for the first 100 guests.

In continuation of HPPA’s Bob Warke-Dale Horn Scholarship program, the association will again be awarding two $1,000 scholarships.

To be eligible for the scholarship, you must be a Class of 2018 high school-eligible graduate, be continuing your education in the fall of 2018, have participated in HPPA’s baseball, softball or basketball youth programs, complete the scholarship application form and return it to HPPA by Feb. 28.

Additional requirements are listed on the application and the association’s website, hokeypark.org.

The organization will review all applications and select one girl and one boy to receive the scholarships at its March/April meeting.

Keep your calendar open March 3 and 4 for Faith’s basket social. On Saturday, the basket social will take place 9 a.m.-3 p.m.; on Sunday, the event will occur 9 a.m.-1 p.m., with a 1:30 p.m. drawing. You do not need to be present to win.

The kitchen will be open both days. There will also be a bake sale.

In case of bad weather, March 10 and 11 are the scheduled dates for the event.

Local students in second through ninth grades are rehearsing at Faith for Camp Rhythmo’s spring production of “Peter Pan Jr.”

“Based on the Disney film and J.M. Barrie’s enchanting play, Disney’s ‘Peter Pan Jr.’ is a modern version of the timeless tale about a boy who wouldn’t grow up,” according to the Camp Rhythmo website.

Final performances will be 7 p.m. March 9 and 2 p.m. March 10, with the venue to be announced.
