Fly Beer Can Chicken Soup, fly! 19 restaurants participate in annual Arts Quest fundraiser

Souper Bowl IX attracted some 500 ticket holders to the Musikfest Cafe Jan. 27 to sample 29 soups from 19 local restaurants during a three-hour culinary event. The annual ArtsQuest fundraiser netted more than $20,000 for its Arts Education Fund. According to Julie Benjamin, vice president of Community Partnerships for ArtsQuest, the ninth annual Souper Bowl was a sellout.

Roosevelt’s 21st of Bethlehem won the top People’s Choice award sponsored by The Restaurant Store. The runner-up restaurants were Volpe’s Sports Bar of Emmaus, with a Beer Belly Bisque, and The View at Morgan Hill in Easton, with a Creme Brulee Soup.

The official Souper Bowl judging panel also announced the following winners: Best Ethnic, Greek Mountain Stew from Daisy Hill Deli & Grill in Allentown; Best Meat-Based, Beer Can Chicken Chowder from Roosevelt’s 21st in Bethlehem; Best Cream-Based, Creme Brulee Soup from The View at Morgan Hill in Easton; Best Seafood-Based, Shrimp Bisque from SouthSide 313 in Bethlehem; Best Vegetarian, Broccoli Cheddar Soup from Johnny’s Bagels & Deli in Bethlehem and Allentown; and Most Original, Kefir Yogurt Fig Soup from Forks Mediterranean Deli in Forks Township.

The 10th annual Souper Bowl is scheduled for Jan. 26, 2019, from noon to 3 p.m. in the Musikfest Cafe at the ArtsQuest Center in South Bethlehem at SteelStacks. Tickets will go on sale later this year, according to an ArtsQuest media release.
