Volunteer opportunities

·Allentown School District Foundation: Allentown School District Health Service is looking for RNs and/or LPNs to volunteer for their screening team. All school districts in Pennsylvania are mandated to perform screenings on their students from kindergarten to 12th grade every school year. Screenings consist of height, weight, vision, hearing and scoliosis.

·American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, Allentown, is looking for volunteers to help 5 to 10 p.m. Feb 24 for the Heart Ball, with registration, auction and check-out. They will provide dinner. The night is a fundraiser for the American Heart Association, with dinner, auction and dancing. Call Dawn Fernandez at 484-245-6267 or email dawn.fernandez@heart.org.

·Cedarbrook Nursing Home, South Whitehall, Volunteers are needed to transport wheelchair bound residents to and from in-house appointments and activities 1-3:30 p.m. Tuesdays. This is an excellent opportunity for exercise and at the same time have a chance to chat with individual residents and make them feel special. All volunteers are required to complete an application, pass a criminal history clearance, and meet for an interview.

·Northeast Ministry, Bethlehem, is seeking volunteers to tutor students in grades one through 12 during the after-school homework club. The club meets 3:30-5:30 p.m. Monday to Thursday. Tutors assist students with homework, reading and school projects. All tutors must complete and pass background clearances before beginning to volunteer.

·Gress Mountain Ranch, Orefield, is an animal sanctuary for more than 70 pets and farm animals rescued from abuse or neglect. Volunteers are needed to feed and water the ranch animals, perform environmental clean-up and do ground maintenance including winterizing pens and wiring roof for turkey pens. Animals need tending every day of the year.

·Habitat For Humanity Restore, Whitehall, is looking for individuals age 18 and older and groups of four people maximum Friday and Saturday afternoons to assist with the daily operations in the donation center, sales floors and working with the ReStore staff.
