Northampton: VFW to host button box, polka music

Northampton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4714, 1204 Main St., will host button box and polka entertainment 7:30-10:30 p.m. Jan. 19, Feb. 9 and 16.

Tommy Zito will perform 7-10 p.m. Jan. 20. Doors open 5:30 p.m.

Karaoke nights with Crazy K are set for 10 p.m.-1 a.m. Jan. 26 and Feb. 2 and 23.

The Super Bowl party will kick off 6 p.m. Feb. 4.

Post 4714’s Valentine’s Day dance with DJ Flip is set for 7:30-10:30 p.m. Feb. 10. Tickets are on sale at the post.

Mayor Thomas Reenock has proclaimed Jan. 21-27 as “Northampton School Choice Week” in the borough, asking residents in the Northampton Area School District to help raise awareness of the importance of opportunities in education.

“Northampton is home to a variety of high-quality public and nonpublic schools from which parents can choose for their children,” Reenock said. “School Choice Week is celebrated across the country by millions of students, parents, educators, schools and organizations to raise awareness of the need for effective educational options.”

Northampton Area Food Bank is sponsoring a Super Bowl gift card bingo Feb. 4 at Good Shepherd Catholic School’s gym, 1300 Newport Ave. Snow date is Feb. 11.

Doors open noon. Bingo starts 2 p.m.

Bingo prizes will be gift cards from area stores and dining and entertainment venues.

The cost of a ticket includes 20 games. Special games will be available for purchase.

Highlights of the day also include a Chinese auction, 50/50 drawing, door prizes, mystery envelope game and a cash drawing.

Food will be available for purchase.

St. John’s Friendly Fifties will meet 1 p.m. Feb. 12 in the church’s social hall, 1343 Newport Ave. Guitarist Bill Fye will entertain.

If Northampton schools have an early dismissal, late start or a cancellation, there will be no meeting.
