Britton takes 4th at Escape the Rock

Northampton placed four wrestlers at the Escape the Rock tournament over the weekend, good to finish 17th out of 47 teams in one of the country’s top high school tournaments at Council Rock South.

Devon Britton took home the Kids highest finish, as he took a fourth place medal at 132 pounds following a 4-1 double overtime rideout loss to Bethlehem Catholic’s Jarred Papcsy.

Britton lost to Nick Raimo of Hanover Park (NJ) 8-1 in the semifinals before winding up with a rematch with Papcsy.

Papcsy knocked off Britton earlier this season in a dual meet 3-2 in what could be a preview of a district title match in February.

The Kids had three wrestlers in the seventh place medal round with Jagger Condomitti (126) coming out on top with a 12-2 major decision over Domenic Difrancescantonio of Hanover Park as well.

Logan Ninos (120) suffered a 10-3 defeat to Delbarton’s Alex Strashinsky to take eighth, while heavyweight Hunter (Bubba) Werkheiser knocked off Becahi’s Jase Crouse 1-0 to cap off the Kids medalists for a seventh place finish.

Werkheiser’s victory was the second over Crouse this season, as he won 6-1 in both team’s previous dual meet.

Northampton (3-2) now moves on to dual meet action, coming into the week as winners of three straight following losses to Becahi and Liberty before Christmas.

Last night’s bout with Emmaus was canceled because of inclement weather, but the big showdown is tonight in Nazareth as the Kids square off against the Blue Eagles (9-1) in the marquee bout of the week.
