Four incumbent Bethlehem City Council members reaffirmed their oaths of office Jan. 2 after their November 2017 election wins allowed them to continue their duties on the Council.

District Judge Nick Englesson officiated for the swearing in of Councilwoman Olga Negrón, who was accompanied by her friend Dr. Paige Van Wert.

Northampton County Court of Common Pleas President Judge Stephen G. Baratta swore in Eric Evans, Adam Waldron and Bryan Callahan in short, separate ceremonies before a small crowd that included family members, council members and city administration members to include Mayor Robert Donchez.

Donchez, who was also re-elected in November, had been sworn in for a new term earlier in the day.

Negrón has been a member of council since 2016. She has served as chair of the Public Works Committee, as a member of Human Resources and Environment Committee, and as a member of the Public Safety Committee. She is the community liaison for the HGSK law firm. Negron has an associate’s degree from Austin Community College.

Negrón, who lives on the South Side, is a leader in the Hispanic community and has been active in relocating Puerto Rican families from Hurricane Maria-ravaged Puerto Rico.

Immediately following the swearing-in ceremony, council elected Negron vice president.

Eric R. Evans, who has been a member of city council since 2010, is an American history teacher at East Hills MS. He is a Liberty HS graduate, has a B.S. in economics and finance from the University of Pittsburgh (1991) and an MBA from the University of Scranton (1997).

Evans said in an interview that he had been offered a position as Bethlehem’s business manager and was considering the offer, pending discussions with his current employer. The appointment was confirmed in later news reports.

He has served as the chair of the Parks and Public Property Committee, as a member of the Public Safety Committee and as a member of the Human Resources and Environment Committee. Evans also served as president of city council from 2012 - 2013.

Adam R. Waldron, the owner of Adam Waldron Painting, is a Liberty HS graduate; he has a B.S. in business management from West Chester University (2006). He has served as vice-president of council (2016-18), as chair of the Human Resources and Environment Committee, as a member of the Community Development and Public Safety Committees, served as a Redevelopment Authority Liaison, and served on the Blighted Property Review Committee.

Following his swearing-in ceremony, council elected Waldron president, replacing William Reynolds, who said, “I would like to thank my colleagues for their time and cooperation in 2017. I look forward to continuing to serve the council, the administration, city employees, and the residents of the city of Bethlehem.” Reynolds will continue to serve on council as a member.

Bryan G. Callahan has been a member of council since 2014. He is the department chair of the Health and Physical Education department at Freedom HS and is also the owner of Bryan Callahan’s Driving School and co-owner of Fancy Sports Photos.

He has served as chair of the Finance Committee, as a member of the Community Development Committee, and as a member of the Public Works Committee.

Callahan is a Liberty HS graduate, has a B.A. from Lock Haven University in journalism and public relations (1985), has attended East Stroudsburg University ,where he studied health and physical education (1994), and has an M.S. in education from Wilkes University (1999).
