Winter is definitely making its presence known this year and hopefully things warm up, even just a tad, in the days and weeks to come.

Republic Services will collect Christmas trees during the month of January. Residents are asked to place the trees curbside on either collection day. Any tree over 10 feet must be cut in half.

On Jan. 13, the Salisbury boys basketball team will hold a flapjack breakfast at Applebee’s, 7150 Hamilton Blvd. 8 to 10 a.m. There is a cost per person. Tickets are available in advance from any junior varsity or varsity player and are also available at the door. Cash and checks made payable to Salisbury Boys Basketball Booster Club are accepted.

Salisbury High School will hold its winter ball 7 p.m. Jan. 13.

Salisbury Middle School will follow with its semi-formal event 7 p.m. Jan. 19.

All Salisbury Township schools will be closed Jan. 15 for a professional development day for teachers.

There will be a school board meeting 7:30 p.m. Jan. 17 in the administration building.

The next Harry S Truman Elementary School T-shirt day will be Jan. 18.

Jan. 19 marks the end of the second marking period for SMS and SHS.

Salisbury Youth Association spring baseball and softball signups are now being held. Signups will be held at HST 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 16 and at SMS 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 22. Both will be held in the school cafeterias.

Looking forward, there will be an early dismissal for all schools Jan. 26. HST and Western Salisbury Elementary School will dismiss 11:15 a.m. and SMS and SHS will dismiss 12:15 p.m. Please note the time changes as the elementary dismisses prior to the middle and high schools.

The next recreation advisory committee meeting will be held 7:30 p.m. Jan. 15 at the municipal building, 2900 S. Pike Ave., Allentown.

The Allentown Public Library has a number of activities for adults and children during the month of January.

The Lego Club meets 6:30 p.m. Jan. 22 for children in grades one through five. “Pizza and Pages” is a monthly book discussion group for students in grades four through seven. They next meet 1:30 p.m. Jan. 20. Mad Science begins 6:30 p.m. Jan. 18 for students in grades kindergarten through third. Winter story times resume Jan. 18. The Emmaus Public Library also has a number of activities for adults and children during the month of January.

A “Bring Your Own Device” event takes place 10:05 a.m. Thursdays. Drop by the library with your technology questions. SCIENCE! at the Library will be held 4:30 p.m. Jan. 11. Science stations are set up for students in fourth grade and older to explore, build and create with the library’s science stuff including Snap Circuits, MagnaTiles and more. This event is sponsored by the Emmaus Rotary Club.

If you are ready for summer, visit the library 7 p.m. Jan. 11 for a story time of beach books and crafts. It is also pajama story time, so bring your favorite stuffed animal. For more information on events, call the library at 610-965-9284.
