Two people have died in a reported murder-suicide Tuesday night in the Borough of Northampton.
According to Northampton County Coroner Zachary Lysek, Matthew Eberhardt, 45, shot his wife, Kristin Eberhardt, 42, then turned the gun on himself inside the couple’s home, in the 300 block of West 27th Street.
Police responded to a report of gunshots about 9:45 p.m. The coroner’s office was called.
Lysek said Matthew and Kristin Eberhardt died of gunshot wounds. Kristin Eberhardt’s death was ruled a homicide, Lysek said, while Matthew’s was ruled a suicide.
Lysek said two children were in the house at the time. Borough police and representatives from both Northampton County Children and Youth and the coroner’s office aided in placing them with relatives.
An investigation is continuing, Lysek said.
