Donald “Doc” T. Dougherty
Donald “Doc” T. Dougherty, 87, of Whitehall, died Dec. 7, 2017. He was the husband of the late Marjorie A. (Young).
Born in Slatington, he was a son of the late Thomas and Emma M. (Morgan) Dougherty.
He was a 1948 graduate of Allentown High School.
He was a Marine Corps sergeant in the 1st Marine Air Wing Mag 33, Squadron VMF-311, and he served in Yongil-Mam Airfield (K-3) in Ponhang, Korea. He maintained the F9F Panther jets of John Glenn and Ted Williams.
He was a general foreman in the pattern shop at Bethlehem Steel for 38 years until he retired in 1985. He was a part-time short order cook at the Village Inn.
He was of the Presbyterian faith.
He was a life member of American Legion Post 576 and was a member and adjutant of its honor guard. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Commanders Club, Allentown Chapter Honorary First Defenders, a life member of the VFW Post 2124 and Fullerton Fire Company No. 1. He was active in the Patriots Old Timers softball team and was a co-founder and coach of the Fullerton Ramblers football league.
He is survived by a daughter, Anne L. Nierer of Whitehall; two sons, Thomas W. and his wife Alysia of Easton and Edward D. and his wife Denise of Harrisburg; a brother, Robert; and two grandchildren, Jacob and Joshua Nierer.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Elaine Ochs and Ruth Kline.
There will be a calling hour 10 a.m. Dec. 23 at the funeral home, 274 N. Krocks Road, Allentown, with the service following 11 a.m.
