Gertrude Kappes McGonigle, 86, formerly of North Catasauqua, died Dec. 5, 2017, at Fellowship Community, Whitehall, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was the wife of the late Edward H. McGonigle.

Born in Catasauqua, she was a daughter of the late William and Louise (Kern) Kappes.

She was an inspector at AT&T for over 30 years.

She was a member of the former St. Lawrence Catholic Church in North Catasauqua, where she also volunteered.

She is survived by two daughters, Kathleen L. and her husband Frank Marth and Theresa M. and her husband Dino Carfara; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.

She was predeceased by six brothers, William, Francis, Vincent, Eugene, Leo and Augustine Kappes; and four sisters, Angela Brothers, Marcella Deutsch, Louise Swann and Helen Deibert.
